Oilers
Well the Edmonton Oilers are going on a bad stretch only 3 wins in the last 13 games. 2 of them coming against the division leader Colorado Avalanche. But with a come back win at home on Wednesday the Oilers seem to getting back in there groove. It isn't going to be an easy task beating the Chicago Blackhawks who are coming off a pounding 7 -1 victory over the Flames. The Oilers are currently 1 game through there 5 game home stand. The Oilers have struggled away from home and have had there majority of wins at Rexall Place. As Ethan Moreau ( the oilers captain ) has said if we win all 5 we are right back in the hunt. I expect a hard fought battle.
Tonight the Oilers are cheering for the Avs as they play the Canucks. The Canucks played the Avs last Saturday and hammered them 8 - 2 . Detroit lost to Florida 2 -1 tonight so no points for the Wings.

The Oilers will have their hands full with the blackhawks tonight. They will need a good team effort to come off victorious , the Blackhawks look like contenders with a strong defence and great goal scorers. But I think it will be closer than some think. The Oilers played the hawks earlier this year and just fell short 3 -2. Another thing is who will start at goal (mind my spelling) Deslauris had a great second and third period last game and seemed comfortable is goal. I 've noticed Khabibulin has had good starts but doesn't finish well so we'll have to see who Pat wants to start. The hawks netminder Huet has been spectatular in the last few games. Overall I wouldn't be suprised if this game goes to extra time but hopefully not a shootout , the Oilers aren't armed as good as the Hawks.
5th - Calgary Flames 26pts
6th - Columbus Blue Jackets 26pts
7th - Phoenix Coyotes 25pts
8th - Detroit Red Wings 24pts
9th - Vancouver Canucks 24pts
10th - Dallas Stars 24pts
11th - Nashville Predators 23pts
12th - Edmonton Oilers 21pts
This shows that there is a 5 point difference between the 5th place Flames and 12th place Oilers. No one's out of it yet. The Flames play the Kings in an early game today expect the flames to fight for the win. The Red Wings play the Canadiens , Montreal won last night against Washington. Columbus takes on Nashville, Oilers would rather have the Blue Jackets win. The Devils play the Stars , Brodeur trying to get his 103rd shutout. Philly plays the Coyotes and of course your Oilers play the Hawks.

Giveaways. That sums up the game last night. The Oilers didn't respond well to the early slough of goals. Yes the Oilers tied it up nearly a minute after the opening goal , but then again a minute later Chicago took the lead again. Kane would get a hard fought goal later in the period. In the second peroid not much changed it was the same score for awhile but the hawks scored again. From that moment I knew the changes of a come back were slim to none but with 0.1 seconds left the Oilers responded or did they. Actually they didn't, the gameclock froze at 0.1 seconds so the goal was disallowed. Early in the third the Oilers got a powerplay and scored. So there was some life back in them , but again another goal and the Oilers had their life sucked out of them. That would be the final. 5 -2. I'm personally disappointed by the performance the oilers just got outplayed.
6 - Columbus Blue Jackets 27pts
7 - Phoenix Coyotes 27pts
8 - Detroit Red Wings 26pts
9 - Dallas Stars 26pts
10th - Nashville Predators 25pts
11th - Vancouver Canucks 24pts
12th - Edmonton Oilers 21pts
13th - St. Louis Blues 20pts
Everything that could have possibly gone wrong did. The Red Wings won ,the Coyotes won , the Stars won , Columbus got a point in Nashville and the Preds got two. The Blues won , and Calgary won. Now from being 5 points between 5th and 12th it's now 8th - 12th. The oilers have to start winning none of these stupid loses. Tonight the hawks play the Canucks .

Tonight is a huge game for the Oil. They play the Phoenix Coyotes tonight in Rexall. 6 points seperate the Coyotes and Oilers so it could be a great gain or great lose. Cause for concern for the Oilers? Khabibulin is day to day with a upper body injury. Deslauris has been shaky for the Oilers in the 2 games but is expected to start.
A busy night tonight some concerning the Oilers. The Hurricanes play the Stars , the Red Wings play the Preds , Blue Jackets play the Rangers, Flames entertain the Ducks , Avs and Blues are also in action tonight.

Jeff Deslauris picked up his first NHL shutout last night in excellent fashion. He made some key stops as they Oilers had a huge victory. The strong first period got it going with 3 goals the prettiest was a give and goal with Hemsky and Penner. It turned out to be Hemmer's 100th goal. Both special teams had a good night with the Coyotes killing 1 0f 6 pks.
7th - Nashville Predators 27pts
8th - Columbus Blue Jackets 27pts
9th - Phoenix Coyotes 27pts
10th - Detroit Red Wings 26pts
11th - Vancouver Canucks 24pts
12th - Edmonton Oilers 23pts
The Oilers didn't move up in the standing but now are only 4 points back of 8th spot. A small schedule is in tonight with the Columbus Blue Jackets play the Montreal Canadiens. The next match for the Oilers is tomorrow night with L.A visiting the Oil.

Well tonight is a big game for moving up in the standings. As your Oilers play the Kings , all eyes will be on Jeff Deslauris after his first career shutout Monday he looks to try and keep the Oilers in it tonight. JDD will have to face the point leader in the NHL in Anze Kopitar he currently has 33 points so far and lookng to add on. Khabibulin is still out they're still listing him as day to day with a back injury. Heading into this one the are running a 1 game win streak as the Kings have struggled in their last two games for a losing streak of the same amount.
7th - Nashville Predators 27pts
8th - Columbus Blue Jackets 27pts
9th - Phoenix Coyotes 27pts
10th - Detroit Red Wings 26pts
11th - Vancouver Canucks 24pts
12th - Edmonton Oilers 23pts
14 games on tap tonight , the ones concerning the Oilers are .... Atlanta vs Detroit , St Louis vs Dallas , Nashville vs Colorado , Phoenix vs Calgary , and Chicago vs San Jose. Still 4 points out of a playoff spot but that could all change tonight.

Tonight the Oil take on Sharks. This is the first meeting between the two since Dany Heatley rejected a trade to Edmonton. There shouldn't be too much bad blood tonight though. The Oilers are coming off a 3 -1 loss to the hands of the Kings. The Oil have never really been completely healthy all year. With the flu bug coming around injuries. Probably the biggest blow was Souray when he was out for a large amount of time. So the Oilers need to change their losing ways into a win tonight or they will be in trouble.
8th - Columbus Blue Jackets 27pts
9th - Phoenix Coyotes 27pts
10th - Detroit Red Wings 26pts
11th - Vancouver Canucks 26pts
12th - Edmonton Oilers 23pts
Oilers are still back 4 points from a playoff spot. I think though that will change tonight.

Last nights loss is a tough pill to swallow the Oilers were leading 4 -3 over the Sharks with 1:30 left in the game. Shorthanded the Sharks still score and bring it to extras. The Oilers would lose in the shootout but still get a point.
Shocking news for Oil fans Ales Hemsky is gone for the year with a should injury. He suffered on Wednesday against the Kings. Edmonton can't seem to catch a break with all these injuries. With all the injury problems it seems more unlikely the Oilers aren't going to make the playoffs. If everyone steps up like Poutny did last night with a pair of goals. O' Sullivan needs to get back with some goals.
6th - Nashville Predators 29pts
7th - Dallas Stars 29pts
8th - Phoenix Coyotes 29pts
9th - Columbus Blue Jackets 27pts
10th - Vancouver Canucks 26pts
11th - Detroit Red Wings 26pts
12th - Edmonton Oilers 24pts
13th - St.Louis Blues 24pts
The Oilers are now 5 points back of a playoff position with points slipping everyday the Oil need to step up tonight against the Canucks or they're going to be too far back.
