Post here, your fondest memory, story or event you have of hockey. This can be NHL, Olympics, World Juniors, anything you want. Let's go back as far as you remember, it will be interesting to see thoughts from different age groups as they grew up with hockey, and events of our times. Put in more than one if you have more than one!
Theoren Fleury's first major international tournament came at the 1987 World Juniors in Piestany, Czechoslovakia. In Canada's first 6 games, Fleury earned 5 points, a successful tournament for the eighteen year old. In their final game, Team Canada took on the Soviet Union. Soviet Union had a horrible tournament and were out of contention for a Gold Medal while Canada still had a shot. Canada had to beat the Soviets by five goals and the Gold would be theirs. During the second period, Canada led 4-2 when the now infamous "Blackout Brawl" erupted. Canada and Soviets were disqualified from the tournament. Fleury's 2 goals earlier in the game were stripped from the record book. The next year during a very successful campaign with the Moose Jaw Warriors, Theoren was back for his second World Junior tournament in Moscow. As the team captain, he lead a rejuvanated Canadian team to the Gold medal that had eluded them a year earlier. With six goals in seven games, Fleury was named to the tournament all-star team.
