Default Instigator Rule

Ok NHL. It's time to get the NHL's competition committee (comprised of players and GMs) and the league's board of governors together and get rid of the instigator rule. I have watched numerous games this year where one teammate sticks up for another and gets put in the box for 2 minutes. Or if you fight you get 2 - 5 - and a 10 minute misconduct. Even worse if you do it in the last five minutes of a game you get an automatic one game susp on top. I've seen this happen to many times to guys who 'instigate' because they are protecting their teammates from someone who is going out to intentionally try to hurt someone. I can't see the rational behind penalizing a guy for trying to stand up for his teammate who was brutalized by a goon who's only intention was to hurt someone.... Throw it out.

Couldn't agree more. Some players , they really do need somebody to stick up for them. Like the Bruin who got in a fight with Ott because Ott w as going after the knees of the bruin's teammates. why would anyone penalize that particular bruin so much? He was protecting his people from a douche nozzle, as my friend calls them.

They to get rid of it for sure. It's been a terrible rule since being brought in. I wouls stand up for my teammate regardless, and most player's would. The Nhl should understand how this game works, Players will defend their own. Doesn't matter if they instigate, 2nd man in 3rd man in. They need to protect from the cheap shots and goon players.
