Steve Yzerman to lead Canada
Eariler this week, Hockey Canada announced that Steve Yzerman will be the GM of team Canada for the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. In addidition they have named his staff for that will be in charge of organzing and picking the team for Olympics in Vancouver, this will be consit of Ken Holland of the Detroit Red WIngs, Edmonton Oilers preisdent Keith Lowe, and Doug Armstrong who was the director of player personal and GM of the 2009 World Championship team. This is also the first time in his international career that Wayne Gretzky will not play a part in the team, Gretzky will play in an advisory committee for Hockey Canada however.
Yzerman has reperstred Canada in serveral times including the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah, in addidition he was a GM of the 2007 World Championship team and where he will help pick the team that will be revelled just before Christmas 2009. He will also be assisted by Johnny Misley who's Hockey Canada Exc. Vice Preisdent and the managment staff that will pick the team. Yzerman said "I am truly honored and privileged to take on the role of executive director for Hockey Canada going into 2010".
At the 2006 Olympics in Turin, Italy Team Canada was elinmated in the QFS and finished 7th, which was they worst performances ever in Hockey Canada's History.
