Canucks' Bieksa has fractured foot
The lower body soreness Vancouver Canucks defenseman Kevin Bieksa felt turned out to be a fracture left foot according to the Vancouver Sun.
Coach Alain Vigneault described Bieksa's absence at practice Thursday with the cryptic description but tests later in the day discovered a small fracture. Bieksa is wearing a walking boot and is expected to miss at least two weeks.
The injury actually occurred Nov. 4 against Nashville when Bieksa was hit by a shot off the stick of Manitoba callup Michel Ouellet during the first period. He finished that game and played three more before finally deciding he needed further medical evaluation.
Bieksa's injury is a serious blow to the Canucks and their blueline. He has been their best all-round defenceman this season despite missing three earlier games with a knee sprain. He was tied for third in team scoring with 11 points. Beginning Saturday, the Canucks play six games in 10 days.
