Default NHL's next plan to increase scoring?

Quote:
Scoring. In the NHL, it's all about increasing scoring even as every coach in the league focuses primarily on reducing scoring. There's the Goalie Equipment Working Group, composed of five players and four general managers charged with reviewing standards of equipment dimensions with respect to safety and performance. Most of the focus is on the size of the jerseys, the trapper and the pads. Pads now cannot exceed 11 inches in extreme width or 38 inches in length from bottom midpoint to top midpoint. But Rangers' goaltender Steve Valiquette, who is not on the committee but is the team's player rep, believes that the length of the pads can and should be reduced. Valiquette also talked about potentially reducing the size of the catching glove, but acknowledged that's a more difficult task.
